Local Students Are Challenged To Do Their Part For The Environment
Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio, April 11, 2007 ? The Lodge & Conference Center at Geneva-on-the-Lake is encouraging environmental awareness among local students by sponsoring two Earth Day contests on Saturday, April 28, the Aluminum Can Collection Challenge for elementary school students and the Create-a-Poster Challenge for junior high school students.
Aluminum Can Collection Challenge Returns
Geneva area elementary school classes as well as Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops are invited to participate in the Aluminum Can Collection Challenge. Groups are asked to collect aluminum cans and bring them to the Lodge on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Last year’s contest was won by Cork Elementary School in Harpersfield.
The class or troop with the most aluminum cans collected will win a pool and pizza party at the Lodge. The school or troop with the most participants will have a tree planted in their honor on the Lodge grounds.
For more information and to register, contact Shari Wilson, environmental coordinator, at the Lodge, 440-415-1507.
New Create-a-Poster Challenge
The Lodge challenges all Geneva area junior high school students to use their imaginations to create posters with the environmental theme “How Can I Make An Impact On Saving The Environment, One Person At A Time.” Posters must measure 10 inches by 14 inches. Students are asked to bring their posters to the Lodge on Saturday, April 28, between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Prizes for first, second and third place will be awarded (restrictions may apply). First place will receive a complimentary one-night stay; second place, dinner in Horizons restaurant; and third place, a gift certificate to purchase items in the Lodge gift shop. The winning posters will be on display at the Lodge.
For more information, contact Shari Wilson, the Lodge's environmental coordinator at 440-415-1507.
Geneva State Park Earth Day Celebrations
In addition, Geneva State Park's Earth Day clean-up activities begin at the Lodge. On April 28, volunteers from the community are asked to report to the Lodge at 9 a.m. for assignments to clean up the shoreline, area creeks and roadside litter in and around the park. At noon, the Lodge is co-sponsoring the luncheon for all volunteers to be held at the park’s cabin pavilion, just across from the campground. Contact Geneva State Park at 440-466-8400 or the Lodge at 440-415-1507 for more information.
Students entering the aluminum can collection and create-a-poster contests are encouraged to participate in the Geneva State Park activities. Winners of both Lodge contests will be announced during the luncheon.
The recycling contest and involvement in Geneva State Park's clean-up activities supports the Lodge's commitment to continual environmental improvement, part of the GreenPath® initiative of Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts.
