Hosting Contests for Area Students and Partners with Geneva State Park
GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio (April 8, 2008) –- The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake is sponsoring two Earth Day contests on Saturday, April 26 for area students to show how they can better care for the planet. In addition, clean-up activities at Geneva State Park will begin at the Lodge at 9 a.m.
Aluminum Can Collection Challenge Returns
The winners of this year’s Aluminum Can Collection Challenge will be the first group to celebrate in The Lodge’s newly finished outdoor pool and kids splash area! All Geneva area elementary school classes and Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops are invited to participate in the Aluminum Can Collection Challenge.
Groups are asked to collect aluminum cans and bring them to The Lodge on Saturday, April 26 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The school or troop with the most participants in its cleanup crew collected will have a tree planted in their honor on The Lodge grounds. Last year’s contest was won by Cork Elementary School in Harpersfield and Austinburg Elementary.

All Geneva area junior high school students are eligible to participate in the annual poster contest titled “How I Can Make An Impact On Saving The Environment, One Person At A Time.” Posters must measure 10 inches by 14 inches.
Students are asked to bring their posters to the Lodge on Saturday, April 26 between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. The winning posters will be displayed at the Lodge.
Geneva State Park and The Lodge Team up for Earth Day Clean-up
Geneva State Park’s Earth Day celebrations will begin at The Lodge at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 26. The day will start with volunteers cleaning up the shoreline and roadside litter in and around the park. Those volunteering are encouraged to wear gloves and dress for the weather.
At noon, The Lodge is co-sponsoring a hot dog cookout and potluck lunch for all volunteers, which will take place at the State Park’s cabin pavilion, just across from the campground. Winners of both Lodge Earth Day contests will be announced during the luncheon. Park rangers will be available to talk with groups about conservation and each volunteer will receive a tree seeding. The recycling contest, in conjunction with Ashtabula Scrap & Metal and Behm Monuments, as well as the involvement in Geneva State Park’s clean-up activities, reflects The Lodge’s commitment to continual environmental improvement, part of the GreenPath initiative of Delaware North Companies Parks & Resorts.
